
Lugiano Wraps Up Fall with Top 5 Finish at Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Liberty's Michael Lugiano paced the Flames at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational with a fourth-place finish during Liberty's final fall event.
The sophomore carded his third-consecutive under-par round at the Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72, 7,401 yards) on Monday to close the event with an 11-under par 205 (68-67-70).
Lugiano's second-career top five finish saw the sophomore post a new career 54-hole low. This bests his 9-under par 207 at the Thomas Skarkey Individual Collegiate, last season, where he won the individual tournament.
Lugiano led the 84-man field at Quail Valley with 20 birdies, ranked second in the field in par-3 scoring (-2/2.83 average) and tied for fifth in par-4 scoring (-4/3.87 average).
FGCU's Sebastain Gamboa claimed medalist honors with a winning score of 14-under par 202 (65-71-66).
Liberty's Josh Ryan, who was tied for the individual lead coming into the day, fell to 15th place with a final score of 7-under par 209 (66-66-77).
Overall, the Flames fell down the leaderboard during the final round on Monday and finished the event in eighth place with a 15-under-par 849 (279-273-297).
Memphis claimed the team title with a winning score of 28-under par 836 (274-281-281). FGCU finished one shot behind in second place with a 27-under par 837 (282-278-277), while Kansas took third place with a 26-under par 838 (278-274-286).
The event concluded Liberty's four-tournament fall schedule. The Flames will return to the course on Feb. 2-3 when they participate in the Sea Best Invitational at the Atlantic Beach Country Club in Atlantic Beach, Fla.
