Recognizing his outstanding offensive play calling abilities, Liberty's Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Willy Korn has been named a recipient of the 2024 GRAPHITE Award.
Korn was one of 11 offensive play callers in the FBS ranks to be recognized with the honor presented by RII Sports Technology.
Liberty's offensive play calling efficiency rating (PCER) was 78.1 percent during the 2024 season. This number ranked first among Conference USA teams and 20th among all FBS programs in the country.
Shannon Dawson, the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Miami, ranked No. 1 in the country with an 86.9 offensive play calling efficiency rating.
During the 2024 season, RII Sports Technology sorted through over 80,000 total offensive plays, assessed the degree to which play callers made decisions that aligned their team's strengths on their opponent's weaknesses.
Liberty finished the 2024 season with an 8-4 overall record and qualified for the program's sixth-consecutive bowl game where they faced Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl.
During his second year with the Flames' football program, Korn guided Liberty's offense that ranked No. 4 in the country in rushing offense (250.7 yards per game), No. 20 in fewest passes had intercepted (7), No. 37 in passing yards per completion (12.83), No. 37 in tackles for a loss allowed (4.75 per game) and No. 38 in total offense (418.5).
Graphite Award Rankings
Graphite Rankings assess the play calling efficiency of Offensive and Defensive play callers. Rather than measuring total offensive or defensive output, Graphite Rankings measure the degree to which a play caller makes calls that best align their team's strengths on their opponent's weaknesses.
This assessment is quantified in a Play Calling Efficiency Ratio (PCER) - which measures how frequently a play caller makes the best possible call (from a data standpoint) in any given situation. For example, a PCER of 0.85 means that a play-caller is making the best possible play call 85 percent of the time.
Aimed at specifically focusing on play calling, Graphite Rankings identify play callers that are doing a good job of putting their teams in the best possible position on each play. An offense or defense might be executing poorly or unable to matchup with another team, but their play caller may still be very good at getting the most out of them - that ability is what our Graphite Rankings capture.
