Liberty's Kaidon Salter, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, has been included on the preseason watch list for the top collegiate player from the Lone Star State.
    Â
Today, Salter was named to the 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Preseason Watch List. Last year, Salter was one of three finalists for the honor. He was joined in the elite group by Texas running back Jonathon Brooks and eventual award winner Ollie Gordon, II, a running back from Oklahoma State.
    Â
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
    Â
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school and/or currently playing at Texas Division I four-year college.
The Watch List announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to five finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 22, 2025.
  Â
The preseason award watch list continues to grow for Salter. Along with today's announcement, Salter has been named the 2024 Conference USA Offensive Preseason Player of the Year, has also been named to the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Manning Award preseason watch lists.
    Â
Salter was the 2023 HERO Sports Group of Five National Player of the Year after throwing for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,089 yards and 12 additional scores.
    Â
The native of Cedar Hill, Texas, received numerous honors from Conference USA during the Flames' inaugural season in the league. He was named the CUSA Most Valuable Player and was selected to the CUSA first-team all-conference listing. He was also a four-time CUSA Offensive Player of the Week.
    Â
Salter led the Flames to an undefeated CUSA 8-0 conference record. The quarterback also guided the Flames to its first conference title at the FBS level with a 49-35 win over New Mexico State in the CUSA Football Championship game.
    Â
Salter received several other national honors during his redshirt sophomore season. He was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2023, was a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award. Â Â
    Â
Statistically, Salter was one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
