
Liberty Student-Athletes Achieve 3.36 Cumulative GPA, Set New Records in Classroom

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty Athletics wrapped up its first year in Conference USA with its most successful academic year in school history.
Liberty Athletics concluded the 2023-24 academic year with a 3.36 cumulative GPA, the highest year-end mark in athletics department history. All 20 of Liberty's teams earned a 3.0 or higher GPA during the spring 2024 semester, the first time in school history that every team has achieved this feat. Additionally, all 20 teams achieved a 3.0 or greater GPA for the 2023-24 academic year for the first time ever.
Overall, the cumulative GPA for Liberty's 590-plus student-athletes has risen in 13 out of the last 15 semesters. Following the end of the 2023-24 school year, Liberty Athletics continues to have 19 of its 20 NCAA Division I athletics programs maintain a 3.0 or higher team cumulative GPA.
Individually, a total of 110 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring 2024 semester, while 75 finished the 2023-24 academic year with an unblemished 4.0 GPA.
At the conclusion of the spring 2024 semester, 443 student-athletes are maintaining a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA (74.1 percent).
Paving the way for the Flames' student-athletes to succeed in the classroom is Liberty's Academic Affairs for Athletics staff.
This group of dedicated individuals spends countless hours each week working alongside Liberty's 590-plus student-athletes. Their staff continues to help Liberty student-athletes thrive in their pursuit of academic, athletic, social and spiritual development.
The top team cumulative GPA after the 2023-24 school year belongs to the Liberty volleyball program with a 3.77 GPA. The Lady Flames swimming & diving team is close behind with a 3.73 cumulative GPA. The volleyball and swimming & diving programs both posted a 3.74 GPA for the 2023-24 school year, tops among all of Liberty's 20 NCAA Division I teams.
Liberty's swimming & diving squad also had success in the pool, claiming the 2024 Atlantic Sun Women's Swimming & Diving Championship for its sixth straight conference title overall. Liberty volleyball's top moment came on Sept. 8, a five-set road win over No. 23 Hawai'i, its first win in program history over a nationally-ranked foe.
Men's soccer leads all of Liberty's men's athletics programs with a 3.41 cumulative GPA, followed by the men's track & field program (3.33 cumulative GPA), which captured both the indoor and outdoor CUSA titles.
All six of Liberty's teams who claimed a conference or regular season title during the 2023-24 academic year posted a 3.0 or better GPA for the year. In Liberty's first year as a member of Conference USA, Liberty claimed conference titles in football (3.05 spring GPA, 3.01 GPA for 2023-24 school year), women's soccer (3.48 2023-24 GPA, 3.51 cumulative GPA), softball (3.21 2023-24 GPA, 3.22 cumulative GPA), men's golf (3.16 2023-24 GPA, 3.29 cumulative GPA), men's track & field (3.26 2023-24 GPA, both indoor and outdoor titles) and women's track & field (3.49 2023-24 GPA, 3.52 cumulative GPA, both indoor and outdoor titles).
Liberty also claimed CUSA regular season titles in football and softball. As mentioned previously, Liberty's swimming & diving team claimed the ASUN title, its sixth overall conference crown in a row. Field hockey (3.32 2023-24 GPA, 3.37 cumulative GPA) earned its third straight BIG EAST regular season title during the 2023-24 school year.
