LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty women's soccer and head coach Lang Wedemeyer have announced their 2024 fall schedule as the team prepares to defend its 2023 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship title. The Lady Flames open their season on Aug. 15 at High Point and host their home opener on Aug. 18 against Old Dominion.
Liberty is set to face five in-state programs next season. The Lady Flames will be hosting Old Dominion (Aug. 18), VCU (Aug. 22) and Longwood (Sept. 1) while traveling to face Virginia Tech (Sept. 5) and George Mason (Sept. 8).
The Lady Flames own a collective 62-59-11 all-time mark (51.1 winning percentage) against their 2024 foes. Liberty holds a 17-11-4 record against High Point and looks to improve on a 1-12-1 record against Virginia Tech. Twelve of Liberty's 2024 foes have less than five previous meetings with the Lady Flames including eight CUSA opponents after joining the league last season (2023).
Liberty's foes held a collective 123-144-81 record (47.0 winning percentage) last season led by Old Dominion with a 13-3-5 mark.
The season opener at High Point on Aug. 15 will be a reunion for newly hired assistant coach, Tori Collar. The former Lady Flame goalkeeper has spent the past two seasons (2022-23) at High Point in the same position, primarily working with the goalkeepers.
The Lady Flames welcome the reigning Atlantic 10 (A10) champion Old Dominion Monarchs to Osborne Stadium for Liberty's home opener on Aug. 18. Liberty faced Old Dominion on the road in a scrimmage before the 2023 season. The Monarchs are the only defending conference champion on the 2024 schedule. Liberty bested reigning Big 12 Champion, West Virginia 3-1 on Sept. 3 last season.
The Lady Flames face two consecutive marquee opponents on the road, taking on Virginia Tech on Sept. 5 before facing West Virginia on Sept. 8. Liberty met Virginia Tech in an exhibition matchup prior to the 2023 season and faced the Hokies most recently in the regular season in 2021, suffering a 3-0 defeat on the road to open the season. The Lady Flames topped reigning Big 12 champion West Virginia 3-1 at home last season.
Liberty faces a nine-match CUSA schedule, opening conference play on the road at Jax State on Sept. 19. The Lady Flames host five conference matchups, including meetings with FIU (Sept. 27), UTEP (Oct. 3), New Mexico State (Oct. 6), Middle Tennessee (Oct. 27) and new CUSA member Kennesaw State (Nov. 1).
New Mexico State travels to Lynchburg for a rematch of the 2023 CUSA Championship final, a contest Liberty won 3-1 to advance to the 2023 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
The regular season concludes with Liberty's first matchup with Kennesaw State with both programs as members of Conference USA. The two have met six times as members of the Atlantic Sun (2018-22) with Liberty holding a 4-3-0 advantage in the series. The two teams met three times in the 2021 season (adjusted schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic) with the Lady Flames securing two triumphs.
The 2024 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship will be hosted by FIU in Miami, Fla. The first round begins on Nov. 6, and the final will be played on Nov. 10 with all games held at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
