Liberty Posts 4 First-Place Finishes at WildCat Track Festival

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Competing close to home at Randolph College's WildCat Stadium, Liberty won four events during Saturday's WildCat Track Festival. The Flames swept the men's hurdles (110 & 400) and women's mid-distance (800 & 1,500) crowns.
Men's Meet Recap
Albrey Gossett got the Flames' day off to a successful start, clocking a time of 14.79 into a headwind to capture the men's 110 hurdles crown. Teammate Rayshawn Johnson was his closest competitor, placing second in 15.09.
Later on, Josh Blalock's season-best 54.30 effort won the men's 400 hurdles by more than three seconds. Blalock has found success at WildCat Stadium during his career, as his personal-best time of 53.83 came during last season's WildCat Twilight.
Women's Meet Recap
Freshman Sophia Park set a personal best by five seconds, as her time of 4:44.11 earned the women's 1,500 victory and led three Lady Flames who placed among the top four.
Samantha Troup (5:00.77) and Rebecca Brown (season-best 5:05.33) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the "metric mile."
Liberty fared even better in the 800 an hour later, placing 1-2-3. It was another freshman named Sophia (Mast) taking top honors this time, in a season-best 2:25.15.
Troup (runner-up, 2:26.32) and Allison Engle (third, 2:27.54) completed Liberty's women's 800 podium sweep.
Liberty's lone field event competitor on the day, Kali Grayson heaved the discus 117-8 for second place.

Liberty will have athletes competing in six different meets next week. A group of throwers will head to California for the Pacific Coast Invitational (April 11 in Long Beach), Beach Invitational (April 12-13 in Long Beach) and Jim Bush Legends Invitational (April 13 in Los Angeles).
Some of the Flames' distance runners will also be competing in the Golden State, taking part in the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 11-13 in Azusa).
Other groups of Flames and Lady Flames will remain in the Commonwealth for the Virginia Grand Prix (April 12-13 in Charlottesville) and Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic (April 12-13 in Lynchburg).
