
No. 2 Liberty Falls 4-1 to No. 1 FIU in CUSA Title Match

MIAMI, Fla. – No. 2 seed Liberty's season came to an end on Sunday, falling 4-1 to No. 1 seed FIU in the 2024 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship. The match and the 2024 CUSA Championship was hosted by FIU in Miami, Fla. The Lady Flames conclude the 2024 season with a 17-6 mark. The Lady Flames are eligible for postseason play and await the results of the NCAA Selection Show on April 30.
The Panthers secured the doubles point to kick off the day on courts two and one. The Lady Flames encountered a 3-0 deficit after MTSU victories on courts three and one. Liberty saw a path for a comeback attempt led by a triumph on court six and a second-set tiebreak on court four. The Panthers shut the door in the No. 2 singles match and sealed the 2024 CUSA Championship.
Liberty enjoyed a strong debut season in CUSA. The Lady Flames went unbeaten (5-0) in regular season conference play and was victorious in two CUSA Championship matches. Liberty held a 10-match winning streak this season and enjoyed a perfect 9-0 mark at home.
The Lady Flames have secured at least 17 wins in the past four consecutive seasons.

- The Panthers controlled the doubles round from the start, grabbing early leads on all three courts. FIU secured its first doubles match on court two with Maria Turchetto and Daniella O'Neill (2-1) fell to Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Salma Loudili 6-2.
- FIU clinched the doubles point in the No. 1 doubles match. Despite forcing a deuce point in the first four games, Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Tiffany Nguyen (10-5) were dropped by Oyinlomo Quadre and Katerina Mandelikova 6-1.
- The Lady Flames' Esther Lovato and Marina Davtyan (7-0) trailed on court three to Valery Gynina and Kristyna Hranacova 4-3 when the doubles round was clinched.
Singles
- FIU won the first set on four of six singles courts.
- The Panthers secured a 2-0 lead in the No. 3 singles match. Lovato (13-5) fell to Gynina 6-2, 6-1. The loss snapped the senior's nine-match singles win streak.
- FIU took a commanding 3-0 lead on court one. Despite a strong effort, Parra Romero (10-4) was taken down by Khairutdinova 6-3, 6-2.
- Liberty got on the board in the No. 6 singles match. Freshman Turchetto cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Hranacova.
- The Panthers sealed the victory and the CUSA Championship title in the No. 2 singles match. Nguyen (3-6) fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set but ultimately fell to Quadre 6-4, 6-4.
- Before the match concluded on court four, Davtyan managed to fight off a championship point, rallying to take the second set in a tiebreaker. The match went unfinished 2-6, 7-6 (2).
- O'Neill was trailing in the third set 6-1, 3-6, 2-5 when the match was finished.
