
Flames Announce Addition of Peter

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's basketball team has announced the signing of Taelon Peter for the 2024-25 school year.
Peter is a 6-4 guard from Russellville, Ark. who will transferring from Arkansas Tech with one season of eligibility remaining.
"We're elated that Taelon Peter is joining our family," stated Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay. "Obviously, the success he had with Coach Downey at Arkansas Tech attracted us more to the type of player he was, but when you get to know his person, you get even more excited about his addition and potential impact on our team and campus."
This past season with Arkansas Tech (Division II), Peter started all 32 games and averaged a team-best 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while leading his team to the Great American Conference (GAC) Championship title and a share of the regular season title. The guard shot 49.9 percent from the field and hit 40.1 percent (81-of-198) of his three-pointers while shooting 86.8 percent from the foul line for a 25-7 Arkansas Tech squad. He was the GAC Player of the Year and a unanimous All-GAC first team selection. Peter also was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Central Region first team.
A five-time GAC Player of the Week, Peter scored in double figures in all but two games during the 2023-24 campaign, had at least 20 points 16 times and eclipsed the 30-point mark two times. He matched a career-high with 33 points in the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys' 87-81 road triumph at Arkansas-Monticello on Nov. 30.
Peter played three seasons at Arkansas Tech, appearing in 88 games with 69 starts. He averaged 15.0 ppg and 5.2 rpg in those three years and scored 1,321 points.
During his second season (2022-23), he was a second team All-GAC performer and a two-time GAC Player of the Week. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. In his first season at Arkansas Tech (2021-22), Peter averaged 10.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Peter began his collegiate career at Tennessee Tech, where he appeared in six games during the 2020-21 campaign.
Peter attended Russellville High School and earned numerous awards during his senior season, including: Class 5A West Player of the Year, River Valley Now Player of the Year and an Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association Top-5 Player.
He led his team to a 23-6 record as a senior and propelled the Russellville Crimson Cyclones to back-to-back Class 5A-West Conference titles as a junior and a senior. Peter averaged 16.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.0 apg while shooting 54.0 percent from the floor and 38.0 percent from three-point range as a senior. The guard earned spots on the Class 5 All-State team and All-5A West Conference team during his final season.
