Lewis Steals Show on Saturday at UVA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty's Omari Lewis was magnificent on Saturday at the Virginia Grand Prix, winning both of his events (men's 100 – program-record 10.08 and men's 200 – personal-best 20.70). Patasha Bryan was also victorious in her heptathlon season debut during the final day of competition at Lannigan Field.
Men's Day 2 Recap
Lewis dominated the field in the men's 100 final, crossing the line in 10.08 to shatter his own program record of 10.18 from the Bob Davidson Team Challenge on March 23. Whereas that mark had been wind-aided (+3.3 m/s), Saturday's record-breaking effort was wind-legal (+1.1 m/s). It is by far the fastest wind-legal 100 in program history, topping Jacob Swinton's 10.20 (+2.0 m/s) from the 1994 IC4A Championship at George Mason.
Lewis just missed the facility record of 10.06, set by Florida State's Andre Ewers in 2019. Only five NCAA Division I runners had posted times faster than 10.08 this season, entering the week. Among those, only Auburn's Favour Ashe had done so with legal wind assistance.
Lewis did not celebrate for long, as he came back just over an hour later to claim victory in the men's 200 with another personal best (20.70). The wind was legal once again (+0.0 m/s) as Lewis moved up to No. 4 in program history and earned a trip to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet in a second event.
Fellow Trinidad and Tobago native Revell Webster came in third in both races with a pair of season-best times (100 – 10.60 and 200 – 21.43).
Making his outdoor season debut, All-American Warren Barrett took runner-up honors in the men's shot put. His 59-11.25 effort will advance him to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet.
Freshman teammate Jordae Edwards followed in fifth place with a personal-best 53-7 shot put on his first attempt of the afternoon.
Josh Blalock (personal-best 53.65) and Luke Anderson (53.85) finished third and fifth in the men's 400 hurdles, giving Liberty a trio of sub-54.00 runners (also Jacob Torres) this season.
Freshman Samuel O'Regan finished with a personal-best 5,670 points for seventh place in the decathlon. Competing unattached, Daniel Van Duren improved his lifetime best to 6,687 for second place.
Women's Day 2 Recap
Bryan closed out a win in her first heptathlon of 2024, finishing with 5,217 points. She was solid in all three of her day two events, including the long jump (17-6.75), javelin (122-3) and 800 (2:18.61).
Paige Greenhagel (fourth place, 4,322) and Sofia Van Arsdale (fifth, 4,205) each recorded personal-best scores to join Bryan inside the top five.
Efe Latham followed up her third-place hammer finish with a fourth-place effort in the shot put on Saturday, reaching 43-8.
Amy Ambelang was the most impressive of the Lady Flames' sprinters on the day, winning her 200 heat in 24.78 into a headwind to take fourth place overall.
Freshman Eva Whiteman recorded her top collegiate high jump clearance to date (5-5.25), coming in fifth.
A day after winning the women's 100 hurdles, Indea Cartwright made her first attempt at the 400 hurdles as a Lady Flame. She ran a time of 1:02.78 to finish fourth.
