LYNCHBURG, Va. – Freshman Sophia Park finished a team-best fourth in the invitational women's 5K, Liberty's lone event on the opening day of the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational.
Competing across town at the University of Lynchburg's Dr. Jack M. Toms Track, Park clocked 18:11.51 in her first track 5K in a Liberty uniform. It was good for fourth place in the 25-member field.
All four Lady Flames dipped under 19:00 in the race, also including Rebecca Brown (sixth place, personal-best 18:31.66), Grace Ervi (ninth, 18:50.24) and Sophia Mast (14th, 18:56.92). For Mast, it was her first time clocking a sub-19:00 5K.
Another highlight came earlier in the evening during the invitational women's 1,500. Future Lady Flame Allie Zealand won the race in 4:23.61 with current Liberty runners (both competing unattached) Adelyn Fairley (4:24.52) and Marie Hostetler (4:29.58) following in second and third. They posted the three fastest times in facility history, shattering the previous standard of 4:34.16 set by current Lady Flame Katelyn Locker at last year's Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational.
