No. 51 Flames Drop Close 4-3 Match to No. 58 Boise State

TEMPE, Ariz - The No. 51 Flames tennis team came up just short of No. 58 Boise State, falling 4-3 on Saturday at the Diablos College Invite in Tempe, Ariz.
Liberty (9-5) initially gave up an intense doubles point, coming down to a tiebreaker on court three. Boise State (7-8) grabbed a quick pair of singles points in the No. 6 and 4 singles matches to take a demanding 3-0 lead. The Flames made a strong push with three consecutive victories on courts two, one and three.
The deciding match came down to the No. 5 singles match between Thando Longwe-Smit and John Chin. A back-and-forth bout, the two traded blows exchanging sets 6-3 and 6-4. Chin ultimately pulled away in the third set, coming out on top 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Liberty drops a second straight match facing a foe it topped in 2023, losing 4-0 to No. 15 Michigan State on Friday. The Flames bested Boise State 4-1 in 2023.
