
Icard Finishes 19th on Platform at NCAA Zone Diving Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – Liberty freshman Shannon Icard earned a 19th-place finish on platform at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, which wrapped up Wednesday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool
Icard was competing to earn a spot in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held in Athens, Ga., March 20-23.
Liberty's Top Performers
Liberty freshman Kamryn Cannings will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, held next Wednesday through Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. Cannings will swim in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly, which are on days three and four, respectively.

Liberty's Top Performers
- Fr. Shannon Icard – Platform diving (5) – 199.50 (19th place in prelims)
- During this week's three-day meet, the top 18 from prelims each day qualify for evening finals. The top five combined scores from prelims and finals in platform diving qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
- This year, it took 204.70 points to qualify for the Zone A Diving final on platform. Mariana Osorio Mendoza of Pitt posted the top qualifying score in prelims with 324.70.
- Icard finished one spot away from the finals, with the last dive of prelims knocking the Liberty freshman out of contention and into 19th place.
- Today's platform diving event featured 23 divers. The divers represent schools from Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
- Icard was one of four Lady Flames competing this week, as senior Maddie Freece contested both one-meter and three-meter and sophomore Mary Herndon and freshman Caroline Stamps compete on one-meter.
- Stamps and Icard became the sixth and seventh Liberty freshman divers, respectively, to compete at NCAA Zone Championships. They join Lauren Chennault (2019), Abigail Egolf-Jensen (2019), Olivia Robinson (2019), Maddie Freece (2021) and Mary Herndon (2023).
- This is the sixth straight NCAA postseason appearance for Liberty's divers. The Lady Flames are attempting to send the first Liberty diver to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
