Flames Dominate Presbyterian 7-0 at Home Friday Night

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty tennis team coupled a dominant doubles round with an abrupt clinch in the singles round to best Presbyterian 7-0 at home Friday night at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
The Flames (5-2) extend their home match winning streak to five games to open the 2024 season. Presbyterian drops to 2-3 following the defeat.
Liberty's No. 3 duo of Luis Felipe Miguel and Matija Samardazic (5-0) continue to command their opponents with a 6-0 win. The Flames secured the doubles win with a 6-2 win from Deji Thomas-Smith and Chase Robinson.
The Flames kept their foot on the gas, cruising to three quick singles matches on courts three, two and five to clinch the match at 4-0. Liberty continued to roll, grabbing an extra three singles wins to secure the sweep.
Flames freshman Rodrigo Santiago Arraez continues his winning ways, boosting his unbeaten singles record to 5-0 to kick off his Liberty career.

How it Happened
- Liberty's No. 3 pair of Miguel and Samardzic kept the good times coming, tossing Pedro Cardoso and Evgenios Vasilakis 6-0.
- The Flames secured the doubles point on court two with the pairing of Thomas-Smith and Chase Robinson (1-1) dispatching David Mamalat and Marco Foglieni 6-2.
- Thomas-Smith (2-3) finished his singles match first, besting Foglieni 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match.
- Miguel (5-1) added his 6-1, 6-3 victory over Vasilakis on court two to get the Flames within one match point of clinching.
- Liberty secured the match-clinching fourth point in the No. 5 singles match with Samardzic (4-3) battling Cardoso throughout, but pulled away for the 6-2, 6-3 triumph.
- Thando Longwe-Smit (4-2) added a win on court four with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Denim Yadav.
- Rafael Marques Da Silva (4-2) tussled in the first set against Javier Matos in the No. 1 singles match but rolled in the second to take the 7-5, 6-2 victory.
- Arraez (5-0) capped off the night by fighting off a tough comeback bid by Mamalat on court six. The freshman cruised in the first set but needed a tiebreaker in the second set to dispatch his foe 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).
