
Lady Flames Set to Host Liberty Softball Classic

Liberty (2-7) opens its home schedule with the Liberty Softball Classic, Friday through Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. The Lady Flames will host Saint Francis (Pa.), No. 25 Penn State, Penn and Morgan State. Their combined record is 22-1, including unbeaten marks from both Penn State (7-0) and Morgan State (6-0).

- The Lady Flames went 1-3 last week in Florida, beginning with a 7-5 setback at UCF on Wednesday. Liberty opened THE Spring Games on Thursday, edging Coastal Carolina 2-1 before falling to both Illinois and Iowa on Friday. All games on Saturday and Sunday were rained out.
- Liberty has faced Power 5 opponents in seven out of nine games so far this season, and will add another this week, taking on Penn State, who was ranked in this week's Softball America Top 25.
- The Lady Flames were chosen as the favorite in the 2024 Conference USA Preseason Poll in their first year in the conference. Additionally, junior outfielder Rachel Roupe was voted CUSA Preseason Player of the Year, while junior Paige Bachman was voted CUSA Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
- Liberty's top hitter last week included Brooke Roberts (3-for-6), Savannah Jessee (3-or-7) and Hailey Deter (.417), while North Alabama transfer Elena Escobar continued to excel, going 1-0 with a 1.31 ERA.
- Rachel Roupe leads Liberty in batting average (.500), on base percentage (.567), slugging percentage (.885), homers (2) and RBI (5). Hailey Deter bats .294, followed by Mary Claire Wilson at .250. Rachel Craine, a 2023 ASUN second team selection, hit her first homer of the season last Wednesday at UCF. Redshirt freshman Savannah Jessee bats .333 (4-for-12) with a .385 on base percentage so far.
- Liberty is 2-0 in games Elena Escobar has started this season, as Escobar holds a 1.12 ERA. She pitched 16 out of Liberty's 20 innings in three games at THE Spring Games. Louisiana Transfer Tyler Oubre (3.39) has been solid in her first extended playing time, while freshman Kaylan Yoder (0-2, 5.68) averages 7.38 strikeouts per seven innings.
