LYNCHBURG, Va. – After helping Liberty sweep the CUSA men's and women's cross country team titles, three of Liberty's top runners have been recognized for their work inside the classroom. Marie Hostetler, Katrina Schlenker and Kyle Harkabus were voted to the 2024 CUSA All-Academic Teams, as announced on Tuesday.
A redshirt senior from Wellman, Iowa, Hostetler is an interior design major with a 3.93 GPA. She stepped up for an eighth-place finish at the CUSA Championship in a 6K personal-best time of 20:56.0 which ranks No. 10 in program history. Two weeks later, Hostetler recorded her best-ever placement (69th) at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship. Her personal-best 17:16.2 effort at this year's Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational is the No. 10 5K clocking all-time for the Lady Flames. Hostetler earned all-academic team distinction for the third year in a row (also 2022 ASUN and 2023 CUSA).
A junior from Batavia, Ill., Schlenker owns a 3.93 GPA as an aeronautics major. She earned second team All-CUSA honors for the second year in a row with a 14th-place conference finish. Schlenker also improved by nearly 50 places from 2023 with her 57th-place showing at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship. During the season, she staked her place among the top runners in program history at both the 5K (No. 13 all-time, 17:24.9 at Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational) and 6K (No. 9 all-time, 20:47.0 at the Roanoke XC Invitational) distances.
A redshirt senior from Senoia, Ga., Harkabus graduated with a bachelor's degree in sport management in May, finishing with a 3.65 GPA. He is now beginning work toward an MBA in marketing. He clinched the Flames' first conference title since 2013 with his 17th-place finish at the CUSA Championship. That effort made Harkabus the sixth Liberty men's cross country runner ever to become a four-time all-conference performer. Like Hostetler, Harkabus has garnered all-academic team honors for the third straight cross country season (previously 2022 ASUN and 2023 CUSA).
