LYNCHBURG, Va. – After making a memorable collegiate debut, Liberty center Emmy Stout has been named the Conference USA Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
Stout is the second Lady Flame to earn this honor in 2024-25, joining high school teammate Avery Mills (Nov. 18).
Suiting up for the first time during her collegiate career on Wednesday, Stout paced all players in points (23), rebounds (16) and steals (4) during Liberty's 109-26 home win over Randolph. She also tallied four assists and blocked a shot during 26 minutes played.
Stout's 23 points were the most by a Liberty freshman in her first game since Devon Brown scored 26 against Winston-Salem State in the 2009-10 opener. Her 16 boards were the most by a Lady Flames freshman making her debut since Cheri Yates pulled down 16 rebounds vs. VCU during Liberty's first-ever game as a Division I program in 1988-89. Stout was also the first Liberty freshman to begin her career with a double-double since Megan Frazee (17 points, 10 rebounds) did so vs. Virginia Union in 2005-06.
Stout became the first Liberty bench player to score 20 points in a game since Bridgette Rettstatt finished with 22 against Norfolk State on Liberty Arena's opening night (Dec. 1, 2020). Meanwhile, her 16 boards (tied for the most by any CUSA player this season) were the most by a Lady Flame since Jan. 10, 2024, when Bella Smuda had 17 at Jacksonville State.
Riding a three-game winning streak, Liberty (6-3) will close out non-conference play with a pair of contests at the Cherokee Invitational, Wednesday and Thursday at Harrah's Cherokee Resort in Cherokee, N.C. The Lady Flames will square off with Arkansas (6-6) on Wednesday at approximately 9:30 p.m., following the 7 p.m. matchup between Toledo (5-2) and Troy (5-5).
Wednesday's two winning teams will meet for the championship Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m., following the 7 p.m. consolation game. All four Cherokee Invitational matchups will be televised on Stadium Network.
