Rode Tabbed to Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty fifth-year senior Kyle Rode has been tabbed to the 2023-24 Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List, announced by CollegeInsider.com.
The Lou Henson Award is given annually to the most outstanding mid-major men's college basketball player in NCAA Division I competition. Rode is one of 35 players on the watch list and one of two Conference USA players on the list. Jacksonville State's KyKy Tandy is the other CUSA player on the watch list.
Rode is averaging a team-best 13.0 points per game, along with 4.4 rebounds per game and 2.7 assists per game for the Flames. The forward from Lexington, Ky. has made a team-best 47 three-pointers in 17 games and ranks 30th nationally and second in CUSA in made three-pointers. He is also second in the conference and 53rd nationally in threes per game (2.76).
Earlier this season, Rode earned back-to-back Conference USA Player of the Week honors (Nov. 13 and 20) and was the Myrtle Beach Invitational MVP. He was also tabbed the Lou Henson National Player of the Week on Nov. 20. Additionally, Rode was named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Nov. 21.
The Lou Henson Award honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, CUSA, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC and West Coast.
Rode's former teammate Darius McGhee was a finalist for both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 Lou Henson National Player of the Year awards.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com. The 2024 award will be announced in Phoenix, Ariz., site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
Rode and Liberty (11-6, 0-2 CUSA) will be back in action on Sunday at Louisiana Tech (11-6, 1-1 CUSA). Tip time is 3 p.m. Eastern from the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.
