WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team dominated the field at the Tribe Invitational by winning 17 of 20 its matches on Saturday. The squad was victorious in all four of their doubles matches and grabbed a win on 13 of 16 singles courts.
The Tribe Invitational, a seven-team event, is the first tournament of the fall season for Liberty.
The Lady Flames return seven players from the fall 2022 season as two true freshman, Sadie Daavetilla and Maria Turchetto, each grabbed their first collegiate wins enjoying a 3-0 Saturday.
Five Lady Flames won two matches in their brackets, led by senior Esther Lovato who dropped just six games across four sets in the Gold Singles draw. Marina Davtyan also won both her singles matches in the Black Singles draw today along with Daavettila (Grey Singles draw), Turchetto (White Singles draw) and Bruna Sampaio (Yellow Singles draw).
Thoughts from Head coach Jeff Maren
"This was a great start for our team. We got some of the competitive rust out of the way and showed the grit and fight that we will need in the spring. We are looking forward to tomorrow's matches!"
