
Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Season at Tribe Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team prepares to open its 2023-24 season playing in the Tribe Invitational this weekend. The tournament hosted by William & Mary is a two-day event covering Saturday and Sunday.
The seven-team event will be held in Williamsburg, Va. at the Mackesy Tennis Center and the McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center. Joining Liberty and hosting William & Mary are East Carolina, Penn, Richmond, Towson and Virginia Tech.
The invitational consists of 11 total brackets, seven singles and four doubles draws. All matches share the same format as spring matches with singles being best of three sets and doubles played to a single set.

Tournament Breakdown
Nine of ten Lady Flames on the fall roster will compete at the Tribe Invitational. The roster is without two seniors graduating in 2023, Micaela Ode Mitre and Alexandra Almborg, but will have the help of redshirt freshman Daniella O'Neill and two freshman, Sadie Daavettila and Maria Turchetto.
Last fall, Maria Juliana Parra Romero led the team with 11 singles triumphs while Micaela Ode Mitre paced the squad with 11 doubles triumphs. Both Parra Romero and Ode Mitre led the team in total wins with 19 each. The Flames' winningest doubles team last fall was Ode Mitre and Tiffany Nguyen with a 7-1 mark.
Liberty will be participating in the Tribe Invitational for the first time since 2016. The Lady Flames also participated in the William & Mary ITA Hall of Fame Classic in 2019.
