
Salter Receives Honorable Mention Nod from Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

Following a career performance last Saturday, Liberty's Kaidon Salter was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week honorable mention list for Week 2 of the college football season.

Salter led the Flames to the program's first-ever conference win at the FBS level. Liberty defeated fellow Conference USA newcomer New Mexico State, 33-17, at Williams Stadium.

The native of Cedar Hill, Texas, finished the New Mexico State game with a career-best four touchdowns (two rushing, two passing). He recorded a career-high 319 total offensive yards (276 passing, 43 rushing).

Salter completed 15-of-25 passing attempts and posted his fifth career game with two or more passing touchdowns. With the win, he moves to 2-0 as Liberty's starting quarterback in 2023 and 4-2 in his career as the Flames' starting quarterback.

The sophomore helped the Flames rack up a season-high 526 total offensive yards against the Aggies. He guided the Flames on a 17-play, 75-yard drive that took 9:03 off the clock in the third quarter, capping the game-defining drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is an award given annually to the top offensive player in NCAA Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell, the 1977 Heisman Trophy award winner, five-time NFL Pro Bowler and native of Tyler, Texas.

The Flames will face their first of five road tests next weekend when Liberty travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to face the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday. Liberty's second match-up against a MAC team in 2023 will kick off from UB Stadium at Noon.
