
Ainsley Leja Named CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week After 2-0 Week 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty goalkeeper Ainsley Leja received the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the opening week of the 2023 season. The conference made the announcement this afternoon.
Leja and the Lady Flames recorded a 2-0 weekend to kick off the year, posting wins over VCU (2-1) Friday and Delaware (1-0) Sunday. Leja recorded six total saves while playing the full 90 minutes in each game. She allowed just one goal.
Leja was recognized as a 2023 CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team member, the only goalkeeper selected. The Junior was named to United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch- Goalkeepers list on Aug. 4.
The Rockford, Mich. native recorded her first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Delaware and has not allowed a goal on the last 169 minutes of play.
Leja and the Liberty defense have been strong for the Lady Flames in the young 2023 season. The defense has allowed a total of 16 shots with just seven going on goal.
In 2022, Leja ranked No. 13 in the nation with 10 clean sheets. The goalkeeper recorded a 0.75 GAA, ranking No. 20 in Division I.
The Lady Flames look to ride Leja's strong performances into two matches this week. Liberty returns to play on Friday to take on Tennessee Tech (0-1-1) at Osborne Stadium, kickoff is set for 6 p.m. On Sunday, Liberty heads to UNCW for a 1 p.m. match.
