Liberty's Kendy Charles and X'Zauvea Gadlin are drawing national attention as the Flames enter their August Training Camp season.
Charles was one of 94 players named to the 2023 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, an award given annually to the top defensive player in college football.
Charles and Gadlin were two of the 91 players named to the 2023 Outland Trophy Watch List, an award given annually to the nation's best interior lineman.
Charles was one of five Conference USA players named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. He was joined on the list by Middle Tennessee safety Tra Fluellen, UTEP's defensive end Praise Amaewhulte and linebacker Tyrice Knight and WKU's defensive end JaQues Evans.
Charles is Liberty's most experienced returning defensive lineman after starting all 13 games in 2022 at defensive tackle. He ranked fourth on the team with 59 tackles (27 solo, 32 assisted), to go along with 10.0 tackles for a loss (51 yards) and 5.5 sacks (42 yards).
The native of Haiti, who attended high school in Orange Park, Fla., helped the Flames rank No. 1 in the country in tackles for a loss and No. 3 in sacks in 2022.
Liberty was one of 17 schools in the country with multiple representatives on the Outland Trophy Watch List. A total of 91 players were named to the preseason watch list.
Charles and Gadlin were two of the four CUSA on the list, joining Middle Tennessee's offensive lineman Keylan Rutledge and WKU's offensive lineman Quantavious Leslie.
Gadlin is one of three returning starters on Liberty's offensive line, the Flames' deepest returning group on either side of the ball.
The native of Grand Prairie, Texas, started all 13 games at right tackle for the Flames. He was Liberty's most durable offensive lineman in 2022, playing all 932 offensive snaps and grading out at 76.9 percent (as listed by PFF.com).
