LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis landed three different rankings in the ITA Atlantic Regional Year-End Rankings. The Lady Flames ranked ninth as a team while Maria Juliana Parra Romero landed at 10th in the singles rankings. Meanwhile, the doubles pair of Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre ranked eighth in doubles.
Liberty finished the 2023 season with a 17-9 (6-2 ASUN) mark, making it to the ASUN Championship Semifinals before falling to No. 1 seed North Florida. The Lady Flames made a big impression after a program first victory over a Big Ten squad after taking down Michigan State on the road, 4-2. Four Liberty athletes were named to ASUN All-Conference teams. The Lady Flames held a national ranking for the first time in program history, raking as high as No. 66.
As a sophomore, Parra Romero continued her strong start to her Liberty career by adding her second ASUN All-Conference first team honor. The Bucaramanga, Columbia native achieved a 27-7 overall singles record while earning a 16-4 spring record. Parra Romero was named the ASUN Player of the Week twice (Jan. 18, March 8).
Nguyen and Ode Mitre achieved a 12-6 record together that included seven straight wins to open the fall season. The two secured their biggest win over the No. 18-ranked Maryland duo of Selma Cadar and Marta Brumfield. The two were playing in Liberty's No. 1 doubles position before Ode Mitre suffered a season-ending injury against Virginia Tech on Feb. 18.
