The Liberty women’s tennis doubles team of Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Tiffany Nguyen have received their first national ranking. The duo is the No. 90-ranked pair in the country in this week’s ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
This is the first time in both players’ respective careers that they have garnered a doubles ranking. The duo has been critical for the Lady Flames, posting a 5-1 spring mark and 7-1 record for the full season. Parra Romero and Nguyen won all three of their matches last week, including their first ranked victory over Furman’s No. 59 Jess Dawson/Sara Snyder, 7-6 (6).
Parra Romero and Nguyen are the second duo in school history to be nationally ranked in doubles and first in over eight years. Emily Groeneveld and Valerie Thong earned a No. 57 national ranking on Jan. 6, 2015.
Parra Romero and Nguyen are back on the court on Thursday morning against the Stetson Hatters (15-6, 5-1 ASUN) in what is a rematch of last year’s ASUN Tournament title contest. First serve is 10 a.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla.
