Liberty, who is ending its regular season with a three-match road swing, began the season-closing stretch with a 6-1 win at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
The Lady Flames improved to 14-7 overall and 5-1 in ASUN play. The Colonels fell to 5-16 and 1-5 in conference play. The match was played indoors at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
The Lady Flames used wins on courts three and one to secure the doubles point to begin the day. Liberty kept its foot on the gas, snagging three straight singles matches to secure the fourth point and the conference win. The Lady Flames would add two more points to end the day on a strong note.
The match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
With just two matches remaining in the regular season, Liberty is currently tied for first place with Stetson and North Florida. The Lady Flames will have a chance to climb in the standings when they face the Hatters on Thursday.
Thoughts from Liberty’s Marina Davtyan
“My father always told me, ‘If my opponent wants to beat me, she needs to earn every single point.’ It has stuck with me until now. That was how I felt about every court today, we earned every single point that we played, and we won! I am proud of everyone!”
