
No. 69 Liberty Set for Diablos Tennis Tournament at Arizona State

No. 69 Liberty will play three matches in three days at the Diablos Tennis Tournament, hosted by Arizona State Friday through Sunday. The Flames will face host and No. 31 Arizona State in their first match, Friday at 7 p.m. at the Kiwanis Tennis Center.
Liberty’s opponents and match times for Saturday and Sunday are yet to be determined. The tournament also features No. 24 Memphis, No. 50 Texas Tech, No. 55 Oregon, No. 61 Drake, No. 67 Michigan State and Boise State. The tournament central page will provide updated information throughout the weekend.
The Flames (5-6) are coming off a 4-3 victory over No. 70 Charlotte, last Saturday at the Liberty Tennis Complex. The Sun Devils bring a 9-3 record into the match and bested No. 32 Baylor 4-3 in their most recent action, last Sunday. This will be the first meeting between Liberty and ASU.
Flames News and Notes
• Liberty seniors Josh Wilson and Christiaan Worst are the No. 74-ranked doubles team in the nation in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. This is the first time they have been ranked together, and this is Wilson’s second career doubles ranking. The duo is 6-4 in the No. 1 slot this spring and leads the squad with 16 victories between spring and fall competition.
• Liberty freshman Luis Felipe Miguel was named ASUN Player of the Week for the first time in his career, Wednesday. Miguel played a pivotal role in last weekend’s triumph over No. 70 Charlotte, winning at No. 2 doubles and clinching the victory at No. 6 singles.
• Miguel paces the Flames with a 7-3 singles mark, followed by Worst at 6-5. In doubles, Wilson and Worst lead the squad with a 6-4 mark, followed by Miguel and Deji Thomas-Smith at 5-3.
• The Flames lead all ASUN squads with three ASUN Player of the Week honorees so far this season. Worst (March 1) and Wilson (Feb. 1) received the same recognition. Liberty has collected 22 player of the week awards since joining the ASUN (five seasons).
• Liberty is the only ranked team in the ASUN at present. The Flames have been listed among the top-75 teams in the country 21 times over the past three seasons.
