
Liberty Upends Queens 6-1 at Home, Wednesday on Senior Day

The Lady Flames improved to 13-6 overall and 4-1 in the ASUN after topping the Queens Royals 6-1, Wednesday afternoon on Senior Day.
Liberty won the first six points of the day to secure the win. Queens falls to 5-14 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Prior to the match, the Lady Flames honored their two seniors, Alexandra Almborg and Micaela Ode Mitre, with a special ceremony for Senior Day. With Liberty's victory today, the Lady Flames are 67-32 over the past five seasons.
Liberty took the doubles point with two convincing wins on courts three and one. Liberty rode those matches into quick victories on courts one (retired), six and four to clinch the victory. The Lady Flames added onto the point total with victories at No. 3 and No. 2 singles. All five singles triumphs for Liberty came in straight sets.
With the win on court two today, Liberty junior Esther Lovato tied the program record for career singles wins at 92. She joins Evangeline Crist (92 wins, 2015-18) at the top of the record book. The junior could secure the record at home Friday versus Furman (10 a.m.).
This was the first ever matchup between the two programs after Queens moved to the ASUN prior to the start of the 2022-23 academic year.

How It Happened
• Esther Lovato and Marina Davtyan (8-1) snagged the first match of the day on court three by cruising over Nyanyuie Grace Tomegah and Kelsey Sinclair 6-0.
• Liberty secured the doubles point in the No. 1 matchu. Maria Julianna Parra Romero and Tiffany Nguyen (3-1) got past Katsiaryna Tuliakova and Hanna Axelsson 6-3. Parra Romero and Nguyen were knotted at 3-all with the Royals' duo before taking the final three games and the match.
• Parra Romero grabbed Liberty its singles point and a 2-0 home lead after she defeated Tuilkova, who was forced to retire due to injury in the second set (6-0, 3-1 (ret.). The Lady Flames sophomore improves to 12-3 for the spring.
• The Lady Flames went up 3-0 in the match thanks to Maretha Burger (4-6) taking down Tomegah in the No. 6 singles match, 6-0, 6-2.
• Leading 3-0, Liberty clinched the win on court four as Nguyen (13-3) rolled over Maelie Allard 6-1, 6-1. The victory for Nguyen extends her win streak to five matches.
• Liberty continued to add to its point total, with Maina Davtyan taking down Axelsson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Davtyan improves to 11-3 for the season.
• Lovato finished the day for Liberty by topping Jill Morse 6-4, 6-4 to settle the final score at 6-1 in favor of the hosts. The win gives Lovato a team-high 14 singles victories this spring with just two losses.
• Liberty improves to 10-2 at home in 2023. The last time the Lady Flames won 10 or more home contests was in 2021, when they finished with an identical 10-2 home mark.
Next Up
• Liberty has a quick turnaround, facing Furman (5-10) in a home matchup on Friday. The contest is set for 10 a.m. from the Liberty Tennis Complex.
• The Lady Flames are seeking their first win versus the Paladins. Liberty is winless in its three all-time matchups with Furman.
