The No. 68 Flames look to add on to their five-match win streak when they go on the road to meet No. 62 Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon. The match is set for 1 p.m. from the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
Liberty improved to 11-8 and 6-0 in the ASUN after a pair of 7-0 wins over the weekend, Friday against North Alabama and celebrating Senior Day on Sunday by beating Jacksonville State.
The 11-8 Monarchs are coming off a big weekend at home themselves after topping Georgia State 6-1 last Friday then knocking off No. 69 Georgia Southern 4-2 on Sunday morning. ODU will carry a three-match winning streak into the tilt on Wednesday.
The Flames are looking to build off last season’s success as they defeated ODU 5-2 at home. Liberty has bested ODU in two of the last three matchups.
Flames News and Notes
• Liberty freshman Luis Felipe Miguel is currently riding a personal five-match win streak into Norfolk on Wednesday. The freshman is having a stellar spring season so far with an 11-4 doubles record and a 12-5 singles record, good enough for a combined 23-9 record and a 71.9 percent win percentage.
• Senior Josh Wilson boasts a 9-8 record this season playing all of his matches in the No. 1 position. The same goes for doubles where Wilson is 7-7 playing with fellow senior Christiaan Worst. Wilson is third in program history with 77 career doubles victories.
• Deji Thomas-Smith (8-8) also carries a five-match winning streak in singles.
• Senior Beau Pelletier (9-5) may be the hottest Flame right now with a team high six-match win streak. The transfer from South Carolina has been a rock in the middle of Liberty’s lineup with a 9-2 record between the No. 3, 4, and 5 positions.
• Liberty’s Rafael Marques Da Silva (6-5) is coming off a big Sunday, grabbing his first win this season in the No. 1 position. The junior breezed through JSU’s Xavier Sarda Marti 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the victory for Liberty.
• The Flames look to add onto their 4-4 record outside of Lynchburg (3-3 road, 1-1 neutral) this spring that includes victories over William & Mary (road, Feb. 4), No. 67 Michigan State (neutral at Arizona State, March 11), Eastern Kentucky (road, March 18) and Lipscomb (road, March 19).
• Including Wednesday, Liberty has just three regular season matches remaining. ODU will be Liberty’s final non-conference opponent before the squad finishes the season on the road at Stetson on April 6 and at FGCU, April 8.
• ODU holds an 11-2 edge in the all-time series with Liberty. The Flames are in search of their third win in the last four matches against the Monarchs.
