The Liberty women’s tennis program has earned a program-best No. 66 national ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
This is Liberty’s second all-time ranking and first in nearly nine years. The Lady Flames received a No. 74 ranking on March 4, 2014.
“I’m so proud of the girls! They deserve this recognition because they’ve put so much effort into improving and preparing for matches,” said Liberty Women’s Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren.
“Their work ethic, drive and desire to lift each other up has been astounding this season. We’ve gone through a lot of adversity this year but have found a way to rise above it. For that, I’m thankful to have such a wonderful team. To God be the glory!”
The Lady Flames have an 8-3 record so far in 2023 and are coming off a 5-2 win over Navy last Saturday, snapping the Mids’ eight-match winning streak. Liberty is 5-1 at home this season.
The Lady Flames earned their first-ever win over a Big Ten team on Feb. 3, downing Michigan State 4-2 on the road. Liberty’s other wins have been over Middle Tennessee (Jan. 13), East Carolina (Jan. 28), Longwood (Jan. 28), Miami (Ohio) (Feb. 4), Norfolk State (Feb. 10) and North Texas (Feb. 12).
