How It Happened
• To snag the doubles point, the Lady Flames got wins on court two and three. Court two finished first, with the Lady Flames' pair of Tiffany Nguyen and Maretha Burger, in their first match together this season, topping Navy's Casey Accola and Sia Chaudry with a 6-3 score. Liberty clinched the doubles point on court three thanks to the duo of Esther Lovato and Marina Davytan getting the win over the Mids' pair of Kate Lee and Parvathi Shanker by a 6-2 score.
• Navy won the first singles match of the day with the Lady Flames' Bruna Sampaio falling to Lee 6-1, 6-0.
• Liberty's No. 1 singles player Maria Juliana Parra Romero got the Lady Flames' first singles point of the day, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1, win over Emily Tannenbaum. Parra Romero rebounds after dropping her first match of the season to Virginia Tech last Saturday, improving her season record to 7-1.
• Liberty picked up a key win from Esther Lovato, who secured her eighth win of the season and has yet to drop a match this spring (8-0). Lovato topped Navy's Stella Ribaudo by winning a tiebreaker in the first set and then breezing through the second set to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The win gives the junior 86 victories for her Liberty career, putting her six shy of the program record of 92 set by Evangeline Crist.
• Liberty's clinching point of the morning came thanks to Liberty senior Davytan, besting Navy's Shanker 7-5, 6-3. The win for the senior puts her at 4-2 on the season.
• The Lady Flames also got a win on court three out of Tiffany Nguyen, who fought back throughout the match to top Navy's Chaudry 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (10-7).
Next Up
• Liberty welcomes the No. 34 Charlotte 49ers (7-4) to Lynchburg on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. from the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
• The Lady Flames look to grab the series lead over the 49ers that currently stands at 3-3. The two met last in 2022, with then-No. 38 Charlotte getting the 4-0 sweep over Liberty at home.
