The Liberty Lady Flames tennis swept the North Texas Mean Green 4-0, Sunday morning at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
Liberty (7-2) takes a 3-2 lead in the all-time series with North Texas (7-3). Liberty head coach Jeff Maren, a former assistant on North Texas' staff, has been the Lady Flames' head coach for every match against the Mean Green.
It was the third match of the weekend for Liberty after topping Norfolk State 4-0 and dropping a match to Maryland 4-0 in a Friday doubleheader in Lynchburg.
The Lady Flames took the vital doubles point with a quick 6-0 win on court three and a tight tiebreaker win on court two, 7-6 (3).
Liberty got a vital point from its No. 1 singles player, sophomore Maria Juliana Parra Romero, who did not drop a game in defeating Jasmine Adams 6-0, 6-0.
Thoughts From Head Coach Jeff Maren
"I think that this weekend was a growth weekend for us. We showed ourselves what we are capable of. Maryland and UNT are excellent teams, and we had to play at a high level both days. We now see that we have taken another step up on the ladder and are so excited about climbing the next wrung as we prepare for Virginia Tech. To God be the glory!"

How It Happened
• Liberty jumped ahead in doubles with a swift 6-0 win on court three by Esther Lovato and Marina Davtyan, taking down UNT's Marina Adati and Nformi Stadfany. The doubles win for the pair was the first win together of the spring season. The duo two posted a 4-3 fall season record.
• The clinching doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on court two between Liberty's Parra Romero and Alexandra Almborg and North Texas' Kexuan Zhou and Olivia Malm. Liberty jumped out to a 4-0 lead before giving up three straight points but struck back to win the match 7-6 (7-3).
• Liberty's Parra Romero got the first singles point on court one, making quick work of the Mean Green's Jasmine Adams 6-0, 6-0. The victory puts the sophomore at 6-0 in the No. 1 slot for the spring season and extends her singles win streak to 10 games.
• The match-winning point came from court five, as the Lady Flames' Tiffany Nguyen took down the Mean Green's Stadfany 6-2, 6-4. The junior improves to 5-1 for singles this spring
• The Lady Flames' Micaela Ode Mitre (5-3) also got a win for Liberty on court six over UNT's Adati 6-4, 6-1.
• Liberty improves to 4-1 at home in 2023.
• This is the Lady Flames' third 4-0 sweep of the year.
Next Up
• Liberty heads on the road to Blacksburg, Va. to take on in-state rival Virginia Tech (5-1) at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Saturday at Noon.
