Liberty’s 60-meter hurdling duo of Jasmine Williams (personal-best 8.29) and Felix Lawrence (season-best 7.99) excelled in their respective events on Saturday, the final day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
First-year Lady Flame Williams shattered her previous best of 8.46 from January 13 at Virginia Tech during Saturday’s women’s 60 hurdles prelims. She now ranks No. 2 all-time at Liberty and No. 3 on the ASUN Conference all-time ledger.
The Liberty and ASUN 60 hurdles record holder (Indea Cartwright) also competed in the prelims for the Lady Flames on Saturday, clocking 8.36.
Lawrence’s 7.99 effort came in the men’s 60 hurdles prelims, leaving him just 0.02 seconds away from qualifying for the final. He improved upon his previous season best of 8.09 and became the second Flame to break 8.00 this weekend.
Teammate Prosper Ekporere clocked 7.93 in his Flames debut, Friday at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
Quinten Clay was the Flames’ top field event performer on day two in New Mexico. His first-round triple jump mark of 49-2.5 was good for a 14th-place finish.
