Liberty’s Makenzy Mizera triple jumped a season-best 41-4.5 to place fourth in the event on Saturday at the USATF Indoor Track & Field Championships, contested at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Meanwhile, former Liberty standouts Carson Waters, Colin Schultz and Sam Chelanga also fared well in their respective competitions on Saturday.
Mizera was competing in Albuquerque for the second consecutive weekend, after long jumping and triple jumping at last weekend’s Don Kirby Elite Invitational. She saved Saturday’s best effort for round six, a 41-4.5 mark that will make her the top seed at next weekend’s ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. The event was won by two-time Olympian Keturah Orji with a leap of 46-11.5.
Also in Albuquerque, Waters posted a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s men’s pole vault competition, thanks to a personal-best and Liberty alumni-record 18-8.75 clearance. Later in the day, fellow 2018 graduate Schultz also notched a personal-best and Liberty alumni-record effort, clocking 1:46.82 to place fifth in the men’s 800 final.
Representing Team USA at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia on Saturday, Chelanga finished a team-best 21st in the men’s 10K race. He clocked a time of 31:04 and led the American men’s squad to a sixth-place team finish.
