
Flames Near Top of Leaderboard at Gator Invitational

No. 37 Liberty kept pace with No. 8 Florida throughout the day on Saturday and remains near the top of the leaderboard when round two play was halted.
Liberty is currently in third place, trailing the two Florida teams in the 14-team field event, hosted by Florida at this home course – Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70, 6,701 yards).
Lightning entered the Gainesville area late in the day, and play was halted at 5:49 p.m. Round two play will resume at 9 a.m. on Sunday with teams having three holes left to play. The final round will follow directly after the resumption of round two.
Liberty currently sits at 9-under par and trails No. 8 Florida by four strokes (13-under par). The Gators’ “B” team is in second place at 12-under par and is 12-under during the second round.
Liberty is one stroke ahead of No. 25 Georgia Southern (8-under par) and five ahead of No. 35 North Florida (4-under par).
A total of 18 players in the 75-man field are currently in red figures, including a pair of Flames who are currently inside the top five.
Connor Polender sits in third place at 7-under par thanks to seven birdies during his second round. He opened the event with a 2-under par 68 during the morning flight.
Austin Barbin had the hot hand for Liberty during the first round, carding a 4-under par 66 that included six birdies. He is currently tied for fifth place at 4-under par.
Rounding out Liberty’s starting five are Isaac Simmons (T26, 1-over par), Josh Ryan (T30, 2-over par) and Jonathan Yaun (T46, 4-over par).
