Liberty and Charleston will square off on Friday evening in the second game of the Field of 68 Media Network Tip-Off event, a game that will be played at FAU.
Liberty (6-1) will be looking to bounce back after its first loss of the season on Thursday night, an 83-58 setback at No. 13 Florida Atlantic. Meanwhile, Charleston is 3-3 on the year and has won two straight. The Cougars are coming off an 84-78 road win at Kent State, Sunday.
The Field of 68 Media Network Tip-Off event is a new, innovative three-year round-robin series between three of the best mid-major programs in the nation: Liberty, FAU and Charleston. The three-year Field of 68 Tip-Off event will begin at FAU this year then head to Charleston in 2024 and be contested at Liberty in 2025.
The three teams at the event - Liberty (27), FAU (35) and Charleston (31) - won a combined 93 games last year.
Liberty received seven votes in this week's AP Poll, the second straight week the Flames have received seven votes.
The Flames are No. 3 in the country in effective field goal percentage (.607), No. 5 in three-pointers per game (11.7), No. 7 in three-point percentage (41.1) and No. 17 in field goal percentage (51.0).
Liberty is No. 51 in the KenPom, and Charleston is No. 147.
The Flames are 0-2 all-time versus the Cougars, but the two teams haven't played since 1991.
Liberty sophomore point guard Colin Porter scored a season-high 16 points against No. 13 FAU on Thursday evening.
