Flames Head South for Georgia Tech Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty men's tennis heads to Atlanta, Ga. for the 2023 Georgia Tech Invite. Liberty joins Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia State, Georgia and Yale at the event. All matches will be played at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
The eight-team, three-day event consists of top-ranked Division l programs including 2022's No. 7 Georgia, No. 16 Miss. St., No. 49 Alabama, No. 56 New Mexico and No. 67 Georgia Tech.
Liberty faced Yale earlier this fall season at the Penn Invitational (Sept. 15-17). Yale edged Liberty, winning five of nine matches on Sept. 16.
The weekend's matches will be scheduled day-to-day with matchups determined on UTR rankings and results throughout the event. Doubles matches will be an eight-game pro set format and singles will be best two of three sets.
Liberty's entire roster, with the exception of Deji Thomas-Smith, will participate in the event.

Tournament Breakdown
The Georgia Tech Invite will be Liberty's fourth event of the fall season. The Flames have previously participated in the Penn Invitational (Sept. 15-17), the ITA All-American Championships (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) and the ITA Atlantic Regional (Oct. 11-16).
Luis Felipe Miguel impressed at the ITA Atlantic Regional with a Liberty leading four singles win at the event. Miguel currently owns a 7-4 singles and a 3-2 doubles record this fall with partner Deji Thomas-Smith.
Rafael Marques Da Silva owns a 5-3 record this fall with a 5-2 doubles record playing with partner Thando Longwe-Smit. Redshirt freshman Chase Robinson similarly owns a 5-1 record this fall with a 2-3 doubles record with partner Matija Samardzic.
Following a perfect record at the Penn Invitational, Longwe-Smit was awarded with the CUSA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month for September. Longwe-Smit currently owns a 4-3 singles record.
