SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Liberty's Nicholas Kiprotich (17th place in men's race) and Adelyn Fairley (22nd in women's race) each recorded all-region performances, headlining the Flames' efforts at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, Friday at the Milliken Research Park.
Kiprotich earned all-region honors for the second year in a row, but only three of his teammates completed the course. So, the Liberty men's squad failed to record a team score. No. 5 North Carolina (38 points) successfully defended its regional title, and Eastern Kentucky (72) grabbed the other automatic qualifier to the NCAA national meet.
On the women's side, Fairley became just the fourth Lady Flame ever to earn multiple all-region medals at this meet. As a team, Liberty's final score of 448 was good for 16th out of 34 women's squads. No. 2 NC State (52 points) won its seventh consecutive regional title and will be joined at the national championship by runner-up No. 25 Furman (82).
By virtue of their all-region finishes, both Kiprotich and Fairley are under consideration for individual qualification to the 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. The complete field of team and individual participants will be announced Saturday at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
