Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium has been named the 2023 Netting Professionals/NFCA Division I Field of the Year, announced Friday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Recognized as one of the top collegiate softball facilities since its opening in 2015, Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium provides softball fans a great venue to watch high-quality softball action. The stadium includes 1,000 chairback seats, along with a berm for open seating and pet friendly. The field is a mixture of sand/clay while the outfield is artificial turf along with the foul territories. The large sunken dugouts and concrete stands provide excellent line of sight for spectators and televised broadcasts of games.
The venue includes both a clubhouse and training center. Â The clubhouse is located underneath the stands and features a team mudroom, laundry area, home, visitor and umpires' locker rooms, an amphitheater style team room, coaches situation room and a large athletic training room. The Training Center portion of the stadium includes seven indoor climate control batting cages and pitching tunnels, 2,000 square feet team activity room, film room, lounge, lobby and coaches/staff offices.
The state-of-the-art press box houses all game operations, home and visiting radio booths, TV booth, score keeping, and other sports information needs, as well as a President's suite. The stadium is prewired for broadcast, as most home games are broadcast by ESPN+.
Liberty's committed grounds crew provides exceptional service with one of the best playing surfaces in the country.
On April 3, 2015, the field was named after Dwayne Kamphuis, a legendary fastpitch softball pitcher and financial supporter of Liberty University and the softball program. Kamphuis traveled the world playing in exhibition softball games as part of the renowned "King and His Court" team, headed up by Eddie "The King" Feigner.   Â
Earning recognition in 2023 are Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium (Liberty University/NCAA DI), Irwin Ballpark (University of Texas at Tyler/NCAA DII), Captains Park (Christopher Newport University/NCAA DIII), Christensen Memorial Field (Siena Heights University/NAIA), Wrangler Field (Odessa College/NJCAA), FLC Falcon Stadium (Folsom Lake College/Cal JC) and Barrington's Fields of Dreams Complex – Champions Field (Barrington High School).
This award, made possible by NFCA Official Sponsor Netting Professionals, recognizes top fields/stadiums in the nation for their flawless grounds maintenance and exceptional playing surfaces. These locations are selected by the NFCA Awards Committee for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Cal JC, NWAC, and High School.
The winners were nominated by NFCA member coaches and selected by a panel of their peers on the NFCA Awards Committee. They will be recognized on Dec. 9 during the NFCA Convention's annual Awards Brunch.
