
Lady Flames Host First Hidden Dual Tournament of Season

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team welcomes four other programs to Lynchburg this weekend for the Flames Hidden Dual. Liberty, Elon, Campbell, East Carolina and Delaware will all participate in the two-day event running on Saturday and Sunday.
The five-team event will be held at the Liberty Tennis Complex. The tournament marks the first of two hidden dual events that Liberty hosts in the 2023 fall season. The next hidden dual is scheduled for Nov. 3-5.

Tournament winner will be determined on a points system.
No. 1 flight – 6 points
No. 2 – 5 points
No. 3 – 4 points
No. 4 – 3 points
No. 5 – 2 points
Nos. 6-10 – 1 point
Points will be added at the end of the tournament to determine the overall team winner.

Tournament Breakdown
Nine of ten Lady Flames on the fall roster will compete at the Flames Hidden Dual. The event is Liberty's third tournament of the fall season. Liberty previously participated in the Tribe Invitational from Sept. 15-17 and two athletes participated in the ITA Women's All-American Championships (Sept. 30-Oct.1).
Marina Davtyan collected a 6-0 overall record at the Tribe Invitational. The Liberty senior also went 3-0 in doubles with partner Daniella O'Neill. Three Lady Flames won their singles draws at the event including Davtyan, Bruna Sampaio and Maria Turchetto.
Turchetto, a true freshman, went 4-1 overall (1-1 doubles) in her first collegiate tournament. Another freshman, Sadie Daavettila, impressed with a 3-2 record (2-1 singles) in her first tournament appearance.
Two Lady Flames, Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Esther Lovato, participated in the ITA Women's All-American Championships in Cary, N.C. on Saturday and Sunday. Parra Romero went 0-2 in singles at the event.
As an alternate, Lovato picked up a first-round victory over NC State's Gina Dittman 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. The senior was matched up with Auburn's No. 104 DJ Bennett in the second round. Lovato battled but ultimately fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Lovato currently has 99 career singles wins. The senior could be the first-ever Lady Flame to reach the century mark. Lovato is currently Liberty's all-time leader in singles victories.
