Liberty's Kaidon Salter has guided the Flames to a perfect start to the 2023 season and now finds himself on one of the nation's elite quarterback award watch lists.
Earlier today, the Manning Award, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced that Salter, along with 14 other players, had been added to this year's award watch list.
Salter is one of the top offensive threats in Conference USA, averaging 281.7 total offensive yards per game.
The quarterback ranks first in the conference in scoring, No. 4 nationally in points responsible for (132) and No. 6 in points responsible per game (18.9).
Salter has completed 88-of-152 passing attempts for 1,493 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also ranks second on Liberty's roster with 85 carries for 497 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
The native of Cedar Hill, Texas, ranks No. 8 nationally in passing touchdowns and No. 10 in passing efficiency (171.2).
Salter is 7-0 as Liberty's starting quarterback this year and 9-2 overall as a starting quarterback for the Flames during the last two years.
Finalists for the Manning Award will be determined by a select panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings. That list will be released on Thursday, November 30 and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
After announcing 33 quarterbacks to its preseason Watch List, the Manning Award opted to increase its spotlighted players based on the many outstanding performances during the first half of the year. While these players have been added to the Watch List, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible to win the honor.
In its first 19 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 14 different schools and from four different conferences.
All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
