
Liberty Women’s Tennis to Compete in 2 Tournaments Beginning on Saturday

The Liberty women’s tennis team will be competing in a pair of tournaments starting on Saturday.
Lady Flames sophomore Maria Juliana Parra Romero has been invited to compete in the prestigious 2022 ITA Women’s All-American Championships (Oct. 1-9). Meanwhile, 10 players will compete at the Liberty Hidden Dual on Saturday and Sunday.
Parra Romero will begin in pre-qualifying on Saturday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Meanwhile, Parra Romero’s teammates will start competing at the Liberty Hidden Dual on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. With impending inclement weather, the whole event will be held at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
The Liberty Hidden Dual will feature Liberty, Virginia Tech, VCU, James Madison and Delaware. This is the program’s second home hidden dual of the fall. The Lady Flames hosted Navy, Campbell and Georgetown on Sept. 17-18 to open their fall campaign.
After this weekend, the Lady Flames will host one more hidden dual in mid-November (Nov. 12-13).

Tournament Breakdown:
Parra Romero, last year’s ASUN Freshman of the Year, is off to a strong start to her sophomore campaign. The Bucaramanga, Colombia native is 3-0 in both singles and doubles. Parra Romero is the first Liberty player since 2019 to be invited to compete at the ITA All-American Championships, a tournament which features the best players in college tennis. Kalani Soli was the Lady Flames’ last player to participate in the event, doing so on Oct. 5, 2019.
A total of 10 Liberty players will take the court at the Liberty Hidden Dual – Alexandra Almborg, Maretha Burger, Marina Davtyan, Priscila Janikian, Elsa Kirch, Esther Lovato, Tiffany Nguyen, Micaela Ode Mitre, Willa Rogers and Bruna Sampaio. Those 10 players combined for an 18-5 singles mark and a 7-3 doubles record at the season-opening Liberty Hidden Dual (Sept. 17-18). Esther Lovato (3-0), Priscila Janikian (3-0), Maretha Burger (3-0), Marina Davtyan (2-0), Alexandra Almborg (2-0), Micaela Ode Mitre (2-0) and Tiffany Nguyen (2-0) were all unbeaten in singles at that event.
