The Houston Astros have invited former Liberty standout Will Wagner to play in the 2022 Arizona Fall League.
Wagner, who played for the Flames from 2018-21, is one of seven Houston minor leaguers chosen by the organization to play for the Surprise Saguaros.
The Saguaros’ roster is made up of some of the top minor league prospects of Houston, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Texas organizations.
The Arizona Fall League begins on Oct. 3 with six weeks of play in the Grand Canyon State. The Fall League incorporates six teams every year, with five Major League farm systems, each filling out those rosters with talent. The teams compete in two three-team divisions, with the division champions moving on to the AFL Championship game on Nov. 12.
Selected by Houston in the 2021 Major League Draft, Wagner hit .259 with a .375 on base percentage between High-A Asheville and Double-A Corpus Christi this past summer.
Wagner was a two-time ASUN All-Conference first team member during his time at Liberty (2019 & 2021). During his four years in a Flames uniform, he hit .305 with 94 RBI and 77 runs scored. He played in 136 games during his career, starting every game during Liberty’s 2019 ASUN Championship and two NCAA Regional appearances in 2019 and 2021.
