Liberty pitcher Garrett Horn has been named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team. The team, selected by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper, was announced early this morning.
Horn was an ASUN All-Conference second team member and an all-freshman team in his first college season. The left-hander posted a 6-1 record with a 1.93 ERA over 51 1/3 innings. In thirteen appearances and seven starts, he struck out 80 and walked 24. The Kernersville, N.C. native averaged 14.03 strikeouts per nine innings and held opponents to a .167 batting average.
Horn was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for April 18 after handcuffing Kennesaw State over six innings in Liberty’s 9-2 victory in the series opener on April 14. Horn allowed one run on four hits over the first six innings to run in the contest. He struck out nine and walked four in the contest. In addition, the left-hander struck out a career-high 12 and did not allow a hit before being lifted after seven innings in a 2-1 15-inning Liberty victory at Stetson on April 29.
The Flames finished the year with a 37-23 record and for the first time in program history, went to an NCAA Regional for the third consecutive season. Liberty has had a freshman pitcher selected to a freshmen All-America team each of the past two seasons. Horn’s teammate Trey Gibson was selected to several All-American teams in 2021, including the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen team.
