Liberty Tops Jacksonville 6-2, Saturday

The Liberty Flames dropped the Jacksonville Dolphins 6-2, Saturday evening at John Sessions Stadium to even their ASUN series at 1-1.
Liberty pitchers set the tone for the night, combining to limit Jacksonville to two runs on four hits in the contest. The five Flames struck out 16 and walked two batters.
Liberty right-fielder Aaron Anderson had a game-high three hits. The Jacksonville, Fla., native also had an RBI and a run scored in the contest. Shortstop Jake Lazzaro tied the game in the fourth with a two-out, two-run single.
The Flames move to 17-8 overall and 4-4 in ASUN play. Jacksonville drops to 14-11 and 2-6 in the ASUN.

Turning Point
After Liberty took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, the first two Dolphins to bat in the bottom of the inning walked. The Flames went to the bullpen for Fluharty, who immediately struck out the first batter he faced for the first out of the inning. The left-hander then hit the next batter, loading the bases.
Fluharty put an end to the scoring threat and preserved the Flames’ advantage by striking out the next two batters.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty’s 16 strikeouts in the contest were one less than its season-high of 17 in a victory over Canisius on March 6.
- The Flames held the Dolphins to an opponent's season-low four hits in the contest. Liberty also held Winthrop to four hits in a 13-2 victory on Feb. 27.
- Fluharty’s eight strikeouts are a career-high for the left-hander. He has struck out 44 and walked one batter over 23 2/3 innings.
