Liberty’s Top Storylines
• Liberty (6-5, 0-0 ASUN) will tip off its fifth and final season of ASUN play by visiting defending conference champion FGCU (12-2, 0-0 ASUN) in a battle between the top two teams in the ASUN preseason polls.
• The Lady Flames are seeking their first-ever victory over the Eagles. Liberty is 0-10 against FGCU and 54-10 against all other ASUN opponents during its time in the conference.
• Liberty enters ASUN play riding a season-best three-game winning streak, highlighted by a 66-54 triumph at Washington on Dec. 18. That marked the Lady Flames' first-ever Pac-12 victory.
• Liberty's leading scorer (14.5 ppg) and rebounder (7.8 rpg), Mya Berkman was a Preseason All-ASUN selection. She currently ranks No. 3 nationally in field goal percentage at 68.5.
• Fellow post player Jordan Bailey hit the game-winning putback with 0.1 second remaining, giving Liberty a dramatic 80-78 win over SIUE in its most recent outing on Dec. 19. The ASUN Player of the Week on Dec. 19 has scored in double figures in four straight contests for the first time in her career.
Notes and Anecdotes – Liberty vs. FGCU
• Liberty will tip off its fifth and final season of ASUN Conference action the same place it began its first year in the ASUN, at Alico Arena.
• FGCU is the only ASUN opponent Liberty has faced but not defeated, as the Lady Flames are 0-10 against the Eagles, including 0-6 in Fort Myers. Liberty is 54-10 versus all other ASUN foes during its first four seasons in the league.
• Five of Liberty's 10 losses to FGCU have been by single digits, including a 73-69 setback during last season's visit to Alico Arena (Jan. 15, 2022) in a game the Lady Flames led by 14 points during the third quarter.
• Liberty has won a season-best three games in a row, while FGCU enters Monday's conference opener riding a four-game winning streak.
• The Lady Flames have not played for two weeks, since a buzzer-beating 80-78 win over SIUE, Dec. 19 in Seattle. This is Liberty's longest gap between games since a 17-day gap leading into conference play in 2020-21. FGCU has played three times since Liberty's last outing.
• As usual, FGCU relies heavily upon three-point shooting. The Eagles rank No. 4 nationally with 10.4 triples made per game. Meanwhile, Liberty is shooting 51 percent (25-of-49) from beyond the arc during its three-game winning streak.
Liberty in ASUN Openers
• Liberty is 3-1 in its opening game of ASUN Conference play, including 1-0 at home and 2-1 on the road. Dating back to their time in the Big South Conference, Monday will mark the Lady Flames' eighth conference opener played on the road in the last nine seasons.
• Liberty has won three straight ASUN openers since losing its inaugural ASUN tilt at FGCU, 68-50, Jan. 5, 2019.
• This is the fourth time in five seasons that Liberty will visit Florida during the opening weekend of conference play. The Lady Flames are 1-3 in those contests, with the lone victory coming by a 65-49 count at Stetson in last year's ASUN lid-lifter, Jan. 5, 2022.
On the Road in the ASUN
• Liberty is 54-20 against ASUN Conference opponents since joining the league prior to the 2018-19 season, including 22- 13 on the road.
• The Lady Flames are 21-11 in ASUN Conference games on the road (including 7-1 last season) and 1-2 in road contests in the ASUN Championship.
• Liberty is 6-11 when facing ASUN Conference opponents in Florida (including 3-1 last season) and 48-9 when matching up with ASUN foes in any other state (including 12-2 last season). Alico Arena (0-6) and Jacksonville State's Pete Mathews Coliseum (0-1) are the only two ASUN arenas Liberty has visited but not won a game in.
