
Flames Tennis Adds Samardzic and Dao

The Liberty men’s tennis team has announced the addition of Matija Samardzic and Dung Em Oliver Dao.
Both student-athletes will join the Flames for the 2023-24 school year.
Matija Samardzic | Podgorica, Montenegro
A native of Podgorica, Montenegro, Samardzic achieved a No. 230 ITF junior ranking and has made four ITF J4 semifinals. His highest career ATP singles ranking is No. 1702 and highest doubles ranking is No. 1584.
Samardzic won the J5 ITF event in Subotica, Serbia and made the final of the J5 ITF tournament in Ulcinj, Montenegro. He has attended Gimnazija Slobodan Škerovic in his hometown of Podgorica, Montenegro.
“Plain and simple, Matija is going to make our program better,” said Liberty Men’s Tennis Associate Head Coach Trevor Foshey. “I was able to spend some quality time with him, and I have no doubt in my mind that he is the right fit for us here at Liberty. His work ethic and passion will be contagious in helping us to continue to build this championship program.”
Dung Em Oliver Dao | Bratislava, Slovakia
Dao, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, won two type A national tournaments and three type B national tournaments in his home country. He was also the Slovakia U18 doubles national champion.
Dao qualified for a 25k Futures event as well. He has attended Sport School Sklodowska.
“Oliver has this smile and personality that can light up any room he goes into. Even though Oliver is already a great player, we believe that he still has a lot of potential to tap into,” Foshey stated. “We are excited to see him flourish and help build this championship program.”
