Liberty’s Top Storylines
• Liberty (4-5) will tip off the Husky Classic Sunday afternoon with a matchup against tournament host Washington (8-1, 1-0 Pac-12).
• The Lady Flames have only faced the Huskies once previously. Host Washington topped Liberty 94-76 on Dec. 19, 1998 during the Seattle Times Classic.
• Liberty is 0-4 all-time against Pac-12 foes, making it the only Power Five conference the Lady Flames have never defeated. In order to do so, they will have to snap the Huskies' eight-game home winning streak.
• Liberty's leading scorer (14.1 ppg) and rebounder (8.0 rpg), Mya Berkman became the 20th 1,000-point scorer in program history during a Nov. 27 meeting with Minnesota. She then became the Lady Flames' 11th player with 700 career rebounds during a 17-point, 10-rebound performance at No. 1 South Carolina on Dec. 11. That marked her fourth double-double of the season and the 11th of her career.
• Fellow post player Jordan Bailey posted 12 points during Liberty's 75-48 home win over Limestone on Thursday, giving her back-to-back games in double figures. Bailey is averaging 10.2 ppg over her last five outings.
Notes and Anecdotes – Liberty vs. Washington
• The only time Liberty faced Washington previously (Dec. 19, 1998 in Seattle), Carey Green was in his 12th and final season as an assistant at Clemson before taking Liberty's head coaching job the following year (1999-2000). Tina Langley was a graduate assistant on Toledo's staff. None of Liberty's current players were born yet.
• Riding a three-game winning streak overall and an eightgame home winning streak, Washington is the ninth opponent in Liberty's first 10 games who enters the contest with a record of .500 or better. The exception was Radford on Dec. 4.
• Liberty is the second ASUN team to visit Washington this season. Two weeks ago (Dec. 4), the Huskies topped ASUN newcomer Queens 54-28 in Seattle.
• Carey Green (1988-99) and Tina Langley (2003-05) both spent time on Jim Davis' coaching staff at Clemson.
• 8-1 Washington has already exceeded its win total from last season (7-16), while 4-5 Liberty has already matched its loss total from 2021-22 (28-5).
• Washington ranks No. 6 nationally with a +13.3 rebound margin, making the Huskies the third nationally elite rebounding squad Liberty has faced this season. South Carolina is tied for No. 2, while James Madison sits at No. 7.
Liberty vs. Pac-12
• Liberty is 0-4 all-time against Pac-12 opponents, making it the only Power Five conference the Lady Flames have never defeated.
• The Lady Flames' first-ever Pac-12 meeting was their 94-76 loss at Washington on Dec. 19, 1998. That is the only time Liberty has faced a Pac-12 foe in a true road game.
• Since then, Liberty has lost to UCLA (62-55 on Nov. 16, 2001 at Michigan State), California (77-72 on Nov. 28, 2015 in Las Vegas) and Oregon State (68-55 on Nov. 30, 2019 at Miami (Fla.)) during regular-season tournaments on neutral courts. Cal (No. 15) and Oregon State (No. 5) were both nationally ranked at the time of the meeting.
Tournament Time
• Liberty will play in two regular-season tournaments in 2022-23, including the Cavalier Classic (Nov. 26 & 27 in Charlottesville, Va.) and the Husky Classic (Dec. 18 & 19 in Seattle).
• Last season, the Lady Flames went 2-0 at both of their regular-season tournaments (Navy Classic in Annapolis, Md. and South Padre Island Classic in South Padre Island, Texas). It was the first time Liberty finished unbeaten in all of its regular-season tournaments since 2007-08.
• Liberty played in Washington's Seattle Times Classic on Dec. 19 & 20, 1998, going 0-2. Like this season, the Lady Flames faced the Huskies on day 1 and an Ohio Valley Conference member (Tennessee-Martin) on day 2.
