During the fall 2021 campaign, the ITA Atlantic Regional took on a different form, as the region split its teams in half. The ITA Atlantic Regional, with half of it hosted by Liberty just over a year ago (Oct. 1-3, 2021), served as a qualifying event for the ITA Atlantic Super Regional, hosted by Virginia (Oct. 22-25, 2021). This year, the ITA Atlantic Regional has returned to its normal format as a one-site event featuring all of the teams from the Atlantic Region.
Last year, Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Esther Lovato qualified for the Super Regional and won a total of three matches. Parra Romero finished with a 2-1 mark, while Lovato closed with a 1-2 record. During the ITA Atlantic Region portion of the event at the Liberty Tennis Complex, the Lady Flames posted a 9-7 combined record (3-2 doubles, 6-5 singles).
Parra Romero is off to a strong start to her sophomore campaign with a 7-2 singles record and 3-0 doubles mark. The Bucaramanga, Colombia native became the first player in program history to win four matches at the ITA All-American Championships. The sophomore went 4-2 at the event (Oct. 1-4) and earned her first career ranked singles victory.
Liberty’s Micaela Ode Mitre is unbeaten so far this fall with a 6-0 doubles mark and 4-0 singles record. Lovato is 6-0 in singles and 2-2 in doubles. Collectively, Liberty sports a 16-9 doubles mark for a .640 winning percentage while employing 14 unique pairings. In singles, the Lady Flames are 31-25 for a .554 winning percentage.
