Clemson’s indoor track is known for producing fast times, and numerous Liberty athletes found that to be the case at the Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday. Diamantae Griffin (21.08 200), Naomi Armstrong (2:09.86 800), Felix Kandie (8:07.43 3K) and Ryan Drew (8:07.53 3K) each posted personal-best times which rank among the top 10 performances in program history.
One day after posting a sterling 60 time of 6.74, Griffin recorded his best-ever indoor 200 clocking (21.08) for a ninth-place finish. The outdoor program record holder at 200 meters now ranks No. 3 all-time for the Flames and No. 5 in ASUN Conference history indoors. He also ranks among the top 40 nationally this season.
Armstrong won her heat of the women’s 800 and placed third overall (second among collegiate competitors). Her indoor personal-best 2:09.86 clocking sits fifth all-time for the Lady Flames.
Kandie (8:07.43) and Drew (8:07.53) finished 1-2 in their heat of the men’s 3K and ended up seventh and eighth overall. The duo now ranks No. 3 and No. 4 on the ASUN all-time list and No. 6 and No. 7 on Liberty’s all-time 3K chart. For Kandie, it was a successful debut to the All-American’s indoor season.
Other notable performances on the oval included a 1:51.29 performance for sixth place in Ally Kipchirchir’s first 800 of the season and Janai Scott’s fastest indoor 200 as a Lady Flame (24.96).
Scott later helped the Lady Flames win their section and place 10th overall in the 4 x 400 relay with a season-best 3:51.78 effort. She was joined by Nimeesha Coleman, Armstrong and Meredith Engle.
Liberty’s Anthony Bryan, Luke Lombardi and Anders Janes each cleared 14-9 to place third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men’s pole vault.
Kennedy Sauder continued the impressive beginning to his collegiate career, high jumping 6-11 for fourth place. Teammate Gabriel Willis cleared 6-9 for sixth.
In the women’s high jump, freshman Kacy Cox’s season-best 5-3.25 clearance earned a 12th-place finish.
Naomi Mojica’s season-best 50-4.5 shot put earned a fifth-place finish, while Jose Ballivian came in eighth in the men’s event at 56-2.
