Liberty Women’s Tennis Set to Host 2021 ITA Atlantic Regional

The Liberty women’s tennis program is set to host the ITA Atlantic South Regional beginning on Friday morning at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
Four Liberty players will compete in the four-day event – junior Alexandra Almborg and sophomores Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre and freshman Maria Juliana Parra Romero. The doubles round of 64 (two total matches) and doubles round of 32 will kick off the tournament at 8:30 a.m., Friday morning.
This is the third time that Liberty will be hosting the ITA Atlantic Regional. The Lady Flames hosted the event in 2015 and 2018. Twelve schools will be competing at the Liberty Tennis Complex, including: Liberty, Virginia, Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, VCU, William & Mary, Richmond, West Virginia, Marshall, James Madison, Radford and Longwood.
In the doubles main draw, the final four doubles teams will move on to the ITA Atlantic Super Regional at Virginia, Oct. 22-25. In the singles main draw, the final eight players will advance to the ITA Atlantic Super Regional.
The ITA Atlantic North Regional will be held at Navy beginning on Friday as well.

Tournament Breakdown:
Almborg competed at the 2018 ITA Atlantic Regional held at Liberty, winning one doubles match during the event. Almborg and Nguyen will be paired together in doubles and will take on Marshall’s Liz Stefancic and Jutte Van Hansewyck in the round of 32, Friday at 8:30 a.m.
In singles, Almborg is the No. 16 seed in the main draw and will square off with Radford’s Emily Brandow in a round of 64 match on Friday at 10:45 a.m. Nguyen will meet Chhinda Som of Virginia Tech in the round of 64 on day one (9:30 a.m.).
Ode Mitre and Parra Romero are doubles partners for the regional. The duo is the No. 4 doubles seed and will face Richmond’s Andrea Campodonico and Sara Saleymyr in the round of 32. Ode Mitre will play her first singles match (round of 64) against the winner of a round of 128 match between James Madison’s Natalia Nikolopoulou and Virginia Tech’s Charlotte Cartledge. Parra Romero is the No. 8 seed in the singles main draw and will take on Radford’s Melissa Ifidhzhen in the round of 64, Friday at 10:45 a.m.
Of the 12 teams entered in the tournament, three squads finished the spring 2021 campaign as a nationally-ranked team: No. 9 Virginia, No. 30 Old Dominion and No. 59 James Madison.
